So I just read an interview-type article with Iyengar himself …the grand poobah of yoga. The first thing that struck me even before reading a single word was his picture. It was a close up of his face and not only was it peaceful and wise, if I had to guess his age I would’ve said that he was like 70. The man is 90 and still practicing yoga.
He says in the article that he does the head stand pose for 30 minutes without shaking. Wow. That just totally blew me away. He says that he just practices traditional yoga and that after all these years practicing – he is still learning. That’s inspiring.
He began his yoga practice, in part, because he was suffering from illnesses. Those illnesses no longer exist in him. Amazing. It tells me how powerful a yoga practice can be in my life and inspires me to move forward. Thanks Yogi Iyengar.
