I have a confession to make.
I hate to cook.
There, I said it.
I am in awe of people who love it and are good at it and especially those who can just take whatever ingredients they have lying around, throw them together and have the result be amazing ~ like the chefs on Chopped.
But me? I hate it.
Maybe what bothers me most about it is that, since I’m a woman, I’m expected to just love it. Since I’m a mom, I’m suppose to whistle while I do it and since I’m a stay at home mom ~ it clearly should be the be all to end all and it should be all I ever want to talk about ~ like ever.
Well, I don’t.
Perhaps if it weren’t expected and women weren’t treated as incomplete if they didn’t just love cooking ~ I would see it as a challenge and love it…
As for now, I do it because my children have to eat and I don’t want to feed them only boxed food and I can’t afford a chef.
So, since I have to cook ~ I try to find the easiest recipes that I can, with as few ingredients as possible and ones which take the least amount of time. Here’s one that I discovered from Sam Zien and it’s delicious.
Do you hate to cook Asian Chicken Wings recipe:
12 chicken wings
1/2 C soy sauce
1/2 C brown sugar
Take a baggie, pour in soy sauce and brown sugar ~ smush around brown sugar until dissolved. Put the chicken wings in the bag and marinade in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes. Take them out, put them on a foil lined pizza pan (or whatever has a lip). ~I make walls with the foil~ Pour the wings in and broil in the oven for 15 minutes, flip ~ broil for another 15 minutes. Done. You can add sesame seeds before eating, but it’s not necessary. Serve with raw celery and an apple.
Enjoy! ~ Whether you like to cook, or not ~
Do you feel Is there something that you hate to do, but you have to anyway? What do you feel is forced on you by society based on your gender? Do you resist it or go with it?
