When I was a little girl, I didn’t hear much talk of politics. It was the belief of those around me that you don’t talk about money or politics in polite society.
Never did understand that.
My thought has been for as long as I cared about the subject, that politics has to be discussed in order to be fully understood.
It’s conversation, it’s debates, it’s opinions, it’s action, it’s research, it’s listening, it’s voting.
In this age of instant information and social networking, it seems to be okay to talk of politics in polite society ~ so maybe that rule doesn’t apply anymore.
…or maybe it’s polite society that no longer exists…
In any case, people don’t seem to have a problem discussing politics anymore in any and all forums.
..until it comes to celebrities, that is.
Apparently, celebrities should just keep their mouths shut and entertain us. Dance, puppets, dance!!
~ at least that’s what I’ve read lately ~
Whether it’s Clint Eastwood doing a skit and siding with Romney or Madonna trying to rally votes for Obama at the end of her concerts, people seem to have a problem with that.
..and why should they? After all, they are citizens of the United States like the rest of us, right?
So, their platform may be bigger and they may be able to talk to massive amounts of people who will listen to them when most of us don’t have that kind of reach ~ does that mean that they must give up their opinions and their 1st amendment right to express those opinions?
What do you think? Do you think celebrities should keep their mouths shut? What do you think of talking about politics and money? What about polite society? Does it exist anymore? and if it does, what are the rules?
