My fabulous blogger friend, Liv Rancourt posted today about the Presidential debate going on tonight and it got me to thinking ~ what if, instead of seeing Presidential candidates, we only heard them?
Think about it.
Say it were proven that those running for the oval office were qualified by some committee, but we never saw their faces ~ we didn’t know if they’re tall or short, black or white, skinny or fat. They couldn’t win us over with their winning smile, charming wink, fit stature or determined stare.
All we had to go on was their voice. All they could tell us would be their beliefs and their views and their hopes and dreams for this wonderful nation and how they are prepared to bring these visions to pass.
Liv mentioned in her post that Abe Lincoln (I call him Abe, ’cause ~ yes ~ we’re buds) would have a hard time winning because of what he looked like. I think she may be right. Looks are so much more important now a days then they ever were ~ in fact, I think about it every time I see a grey hair ~ isn’t it jading our ability to make a decision purely based on ideals and dreams and qualifications?
I look around at magazines and ‘Real’ Housewives on TV and thousand dollars suits with perfectly white teeth and I have to wonder what kind of crazy Alice in Wonderland road we’re on.
Maybe it’s just me, but ~ Stop the ride ~ I wanna get off!
So, give me a debate ~ yes ~ a REAL debate, unscripted. Give me views that come from inside an intelligent brain and a caring heart.
Give me the voices and hold the pictures, please.
What do you think about an election where you only hear the candidates but you don’t see them? Do you think it would improve campaigns and debates? Do you think debates should be scripted or unscripted?
