The Walking Dead is a television series on AMC that is based on a comic book series by the same name about a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been overrun by flesh eating zombies.
Yeah, not a fun place to be.
The show follows a small group of people, lead by deputy sheriff Rick Grimes, and their journey to survive.
But Rick wasn’t always the leader of this group. Before he arrived (he was left for dead when the zombies took over and caught up with the group later, which included his wife and son), his best friend and police partner, Shane was leading the group.
Basically there are two schools of thought going on in the show. There is Rick’s philosophy that keeps alive the human spirit of compassion and thought prior to most actions ~ he relies on a moral code.Image from Wikipedia
Then there is Shane’s philosophy of humanitarianism be damned ~ do whatever you have to to survive even if that includes killing other humans if you feel they are a threat.Image from EW
There are no rules anymore. There are no laws anymore. There is just you, your group and the zombies.
My tendency is to side toward Rick because he’s not a hothead and, although he makes the tough decisions that need to be made, he stays true to his human side.
Shane does have a great point in the simple ‘kill or be killed’ because the world, if fact, has come to an end as we all know it.
The question I pose to you all is this:
If the world were to end today and be overrun by zombies, who’s thought process would you side with: Rick or Shane ~ morals or pure survival?
